I've been busy this week working on my latest piece. I've been wanting to do a 'union jack' dresser for some time now but was waiting for the right suspect.
Enter this guy:
He was an unexpected suprise. I went out to pick up another dresser and he was right there with the one I set out to get...I couldn't leave him all alone. So I loaded up the both of them and off we went straight to my workshop!
My inspiration was Miss Mustard Seed's more authentic Union Jack.
Although I am in love with hers I wanted to keep mine in a more neutral color pallet and of course two of my favorite painting colors that I always have on hand are white & grey.
I painted the entire piece grey then "mapped out" my flag on the front. And let me tell you...I suck at math and figuring out angles and such so there were a few moments where I had a few choice words to say to Mr. Jack...but in the back of my mind I could see the end result so I pushed through.
Once the flag was dry I heavily distressed the entire piece because I wanted it to look vintage and tattered.
I really had a lot of fun with this one and although it may not appeal to everyone I had to take the risk. It's always a good thing to push yourself and get those creative juices flowing because it leads to more creative ideas.
I'm hoping to have the other dresser wrapped up soon. I have a picture in my mind how it will turn out and I'm really hoping I can make it happen.
Also in master bedroom news we are slightly behind on the bed building but we did purchase the wood yesterday and I ordered some fabric!

That is one gorgeous dresser! You did a wonderful job...can you share the paint colors?
Judy
HI Judy. Sorry forgot to mention: they are Annie Sloan's Chalk paint. The grey is French Linen and the white is her standard white color. I do have another grey that I use a lot that is similar which is "Creek Bend" (i think) by Behr.
I absolutely love your take on the union jack! Beautiful...
It's awesome, Courtney!!! Such a great look..especially in only the white and grey.
Just tagged you in my post for a game of blog tag...no pressure:)
Oh my goodness! This union jack dresser if the best one I have seen yet! I love the soft colors and the warm worn look. It was worth all the effort and math! I am an new follower... there is lots of creativity and inspiration here!

I too am waiting for the right one to try out the "Jack"! I have one in mind thats the same style as yours, but a bit longer. Glad to know how it will turn out over the drawers. You did a fantastic job! I like that you tried it with different colors. What did you use for the flag as far as measuring? Or did you just eyeball it? Thanks. Beth
Hey Beth. I started by measuring out to get a rough idea. I knew I would be distressing so I wasn't to concerned with it being "perfect" I did eyeball when taping off sections. It was a lot of work but totally worth it!
This turned out great, I love it! Bravo.
